A detailed report obtained by Erem News reveals that the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms has documented over 160,955 violations committed by the Houthi militia against civilians since their takeover of Sana’a in September 2014, continuing through mid-2023.

A Humanitarian Crisis Unfolding

Published to coincide with the 21st anniversary of the Houthi coup, the report characterizes Yemen as experiencing “one of the worst human rights and humanitarian disasters in modern history.” The systematic and severe violations against civilians span various provinces, highlighting the urgent need for international attention.

Key Statistics from the Report

The report presents shocking statistics that illustrate the extent of the crisis:

  • 21,946 unlawful killings, including:

    • 13,926 men (68%)
    • 4,123 women (17%)
    • 3,897 children, of whom 512 are infants (15%)
  • 33,456 injuries, comprising:

    • 5,962 women
    • 2,983 children
  • 21,731 abductions, targeting politicians, journalists, educators, and medical professionals, including:

    • 387 women
    • 180 children
  • 2,678 cases of enforced disappearance, with the fate of many still unknown, including:

    • 158 women
    • 137 children
  • 1,937 instances of torture within Houthi prisons, resulting in the deaths of 476 detainees, including a UN employee, 18 children, 23 women, and 25 elderly individuals.

  • 71,674 violations affecting public and private property, including the destruction of facilities, raids on places of worship, and looting of healthcare and commercial establishments.

  • 575 media violations, which include:

    • 210 closures of media institutions
    • 65 murders of journalists
    • 347 cases of arrest, abduction, and enforced disappearance
