Sudanese authorities are actively working to restart the ambitious project aimed at cultivating one million acres of wheat. This initiative had previously been sidelined due to the ongoing conflict within the country. The government views this project as an essential step toward enhancing food security and achieving self-sufficiency in staple crops.
A recent meeting convened between Abdelrahman Abdelhamid, the governor of the Northern State, and a delegation from Kenana Sugar Company. The Director General of the Ministry of Investment and Industry, Omar Ali Saleh, also attended this critical discussion. During the meeting, participants outlined plans to reactivate the strategic agricultural project, which is designed to boost agricultural production and strengthen food security across Sudan.
The project operates through a collaborative partnership involving Kenana Sugar Company, the Northern State government, and various Arab investment funds. It emphasizes the integration of agricultural production with both agricultural and animal manufacturing sectors. Project leaders are also looking to export products to Arab markets, thereby enhancing the national economy.
The governor of the Northern State expressed unwavering support for the project, affirming that his administration is prepared to provide all necessary facilities to ensure its success. Furthermore, the Director General of the Ministry of Investment and Industry highlighted that the initiative will localize wheat production within the state and create numerous job opportunities in related manufacturing sectors.
Resuming the one million acre wheat project represents a vital move toward achieving food security in Sudan. This initiative is expected to contribute significantly to economic stability while also meeting local market demands.
