Yemen’s Sovereignty Under Threat

In a recent statement, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, addressed the Yemeni people and the nation’s military and security forces. He highlighted ongoing violations of Yemen’s sovereignty and the persistent threats posed by Houthi militias.

On July 10, 2026, the Presidential Leadership Council issued a warning regarding these violations. Despite efforts from allies and mediators to de-escalate the situation, the Houthis continue to undermine peace initiatives. Their actions reflect a blatant disregard for state institutions and a refusal to engage in constructive dialogue aimed at safeguarding the interests of Yemeni citizens.

Houthi Defiance and Iranian Support

The Houthis have chosen to ignore the Yemeni government’s proposals for resuming civil flights through Yemenia Airlines, the national carrier authorized to operate flights to and from Sana’a Airport. The government even offered to facilitate the transport of Houthi members from Tehran to Sana’a using Yemenia Airlines, ensuring the airport’s operation while respecting Yemen’s sovereignty and international law.

However, the Houthis rejected these initiatives, opting instead to impose their own reality outside state institutions. This behavior underscores their true objective: to deepen divisions, weaken state institutions, and escalate conflict, all while exploiting civilians and national resources for agendas disconnected from the Yemeni people’s interests.

The Iranian regime’s support for these actions, along with the use of sanctioned entities to carry out violations, does not absolve the Houthis of responsibility. They have consciously chosen to reject peace and continue violating Yemen’s sovereignty and international legal frameworks.

Commitment to National Sovereignty

The Yemeni state reaffirms its constitutional duty to protect its sovereignty and airspace. This responsibility remains paramount under any circumstances. Consequently, the government, armed forces, and security agencies must maintain high levels of readiness and vigilance. They will implement all necessary political, diplomatic, and legal measures to ensure national sovereignty and prevent further violations, thereby safeguarding citizens’ security.

The Houthis bear full responsibility for the escalation and any consequences that may threaten Yemen’s stability. Their supporters also share legal and political accountability for perpetuating these violations and undermining peace efforts.

Call for International Action

The Yemeni government urges the international community to move from mere condemnation to active deterrence. It calls for the enforcement of UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolutions 2140 and 2216, and for strict sanctions to uphold Yemen’s sovereignty. This action is crucial to prevent repeated violations from becoming an accepted reality that jeopardizes regional and international peace.

A Commitment to Peace and Stability

Throughout this crisis, the Yemeni state has demonstrated its commitment to international law and its dedication to peace and civilian protection. While it remains steadfast in its pursuit of peace, it will not allow its commitment to be used as a pretext for undermining its sovereignty or for imposing realities outside its legitimate institutions.

The Yemeni people, alongside their brave armed forces and with the support of allies, will overcome these challenges. Together, they will restore state institutions, achieve security and stability, and ultimately secure a just and lasting peace that the Yemeni people deserve.
