On Saturday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council of Yemen, held a significant meeting with his Somali counterpart, President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. The two leaders engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, addressing regional developments, and tackling shared concerns.
During their meeting, President Alimi and President Mohamud emphasized the long-standing and distinguished relations between Yemen and Somalia. They explored various avenues to enhance cooperation across multiple sectors, with a particular focus on coordinating efforts to combat terrorism. The leaders acknowledged the security challenges posed by rising activities of armed groups and militias, which threaten cross-border stability and international navigation.
In a display of mutual respect, President Alimi praised Somalia for its unwavering support of Yemen and its political leadership in regional and international forums, notably through its role as a member of the United Nations Security Council. He reaffirmed Yemen’s commitment to supporting the Somali government, emphasizing the importance of Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity.
The meeting was attended by key figures, including Major General Mohammed Ayda, head of the State Security Agency; Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, director of the President’s office; and Abdullah Al-Saqtri, Yemen’s ambassador to Djibouti. This gathering marks a pivotal step in fostering collaboration between Yemen and Somalia, underscoring their mutual dedication to security and stability in the region.
