A government report has revealed that approximately 2,000 displaced families have been adversely affected by the heavy rains and floods that struck the displaced persons’ camps in the liberated directorates of Hajjah Governorate last weekend.
The Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons’ Camps (EXUIDPS), in a report released on Saturday, stated that a total of 1,985 families suffered due to the heavy rains and floods experienced in the displaced persons’ camps across several directorates of Hajjah Governorate, during last Thursday and Friday.
The report further detailed that the damages encompassed a number of displacement camps located in the directorates (Haradh, Midi, Hayran, and Abs), where the heavy rains and strong winds resulted in the uprooting of tents and damage to food supplies.
It highlighted the continuous efforts to monitor the conditions of those affected in the governorate, including the sites and camps that suffered damages.
The Executive Unit has called upon international and local non-governmental organizations to urgently provide emergency assistance to the affected families, through key sectors such as food aid, shelter, non-food items, and water, sanitation, and hygiene services.
Moreover, it emphasized the necessity for all humanitarian organizations operating in these directorates to maintain an emergency stock to respond efficiently and effectively to such emergencies and to activate a rapid response mechanism for emergency situations.
