Presidential Council Head affirms state’s full commitment to supporting the healthcare sector.

In a significant move towards enhancing healthcare and humanitarian efforts, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, the head of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, has reiterated the council and government’s commitment to collaborate with the international community. This collaboration aims to safeguard humanitarian initiatives, including the release of doctors detained by terrorist militias, acknowledging their noble services in improving the living conditions and health of the Yemeni people.

Inaugural Conference on Heart and Kidney Diseases

During a video conference held on Wednesday, President Al-Alimi inaugurated the first scientific conference on cardiovascular diseases and kidney transplantation. The event, organized in partnership with Taiz University and the Heart and Vascular Diseases and Kidney Transplantation Center, saw participation from over 1,500 local and international attendees. This conference marks a crucial step towards diagnosing and addressing the health challenges faced by the country, particularly in Taiz, renowned for its contribution to producing highly qualified human resources in dire need of medical care.

A Vision for Health and Knowledge

President Al-Alimi emphasized health and knowledge as critical remedies for the country’s recovery and resilience against various diseases, including racism, ignorance, superstition, and tyranny. He expressed optimism that the conference would kickstart a revolutionary month for Yemen, aiming to elevate the population’s economic, social, political, and cultural levels as a pathway to desired change across all sectors.

The Role of Medical Professionals in Yemen’s Recovery

Highlighting the urgent need for healthcare services and life-saving medications, President Al-Alimi praised the large gathering of heart disease specialists and doctors for their sustainable health efforts. He commended the success story of the Heart Center as a model for other provinces and looked forward to the conference leading to a comprehensive health vision to alleviate Yemenis’ suffering. The focus is on localizing possible health services instead of seeking treatment abroad, which has been complicated by the war ignited by Houthi militias with Iranian regime support.

Acknowledgments and Future Directions

President Al-Alimi extended gratitude to regional and international organizations, including the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, the Emirates Red Crescent, the World Health Organization, and its agencies for their significant efforts in providing medical care to Yemenis under extraordinary circumstances. He also highlighted the recent achievements in Taiz, supported by Saudi Arabia, which include the establishment of medical colleges and a cancer center, marking the beginning of the largest medical city in the country.

Furthermore, the President lauded the young doctors who founded the Heart and Kidney Transplantation Center, performing hundreds of open-heart surgeries and over 70 kidney transplants amidst adversity. He also noted the arrival of over 300 trucks loaded with kidney dialysis solutions from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, signifying a transformative year for Yemen’s health sector.

In concluding his address, President Al-Alimi thanked the authorities and Taiz University for organizing the conference, wishing success and fruitful outcomes for the participants that meet the aspirations of enhancing Yemen’s health and academic sectors.
