On Sunday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, the head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif. This meeting served as a platform to strengthen bilateral relations and address critical national issues affecting Yemen.
During the discussions, President Alimi commended the robust ties between Yemen and the UK. He acknowledged the UK’s humanitarian and developmental assistance across various sectors, expressing gratitude for the continued support extended to the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government. The President highlighted London’s commitment to fostering stability and promoting economic and humanitarian reforms within Yemen.
In the context of regional security, President Alimi underscored the necessity of tackling the underlying causes of the Iranian threat, rather than simply managing its immediate consequences. He advocated for a comprehensive strategy aimed at achieving sustainable security and stability. This approach should encompass decisive actions to dismantle Iranian-backed proxies and armed groups, which pose serious risks to national sovereignty and global economic stability.
The President reiterated the Council’s and the government’s commitment to supporting genuine efforts aimed at de-escalation and the pursuit of lasting peace. He emphasized that achieving true peace is contingent upon addressing threats from both land and sea, particularly the challenges presented by cross-border militias.
Furthermore, President Alimi addressed recent security developments, including assassination attempts targeting civilian figures. He noted that such acts are designed to undermine public confidence in liberated provinces and erode trust among international partners.
The meeting concluded in the presence of Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in overcoming Yemen’s multifaceted challenges.
