Nepal’s Foreign Minister, Shisir Khanal, announced that the country requires specialized technical assistance in areas where it lacks expertise. This statement comes in the wake of catastrophic floods and landslides that have struck the nation. Khanal emphasized that Nepal does not need external support for search and rescue operations.
Last Wednesday, a massive glacier collapse triggered torrents of rocks, ice, and mud through the mountainous river networks of the Himalayas. This disaster resulted in severe flooding, claiming the lives of over 600 individuals in Nepal and the Tibet region of China. Tragically, more than 2,000 people remain unaccounted for.
In response to the destruction caused by the floods, Nepal has reached out to its neighbors, India and China, for assistance. The country has requested ready-made mobile bridges to quickly restore transportation and communication routes in the affected areas. The floods have destroyed approximately twenty bridges along the border, complicating recovery efforts.
As Nepal navigates the aftermath of these devastating natural events, the call for specialized technical support highlights the nation’s proactive approach to rebuilding and recovery. The focus remains on restoring essential infrastructure while ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.
