King Salman Humanitarian Aid Project Removes 3,166 Landmines in Yemen
The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center’s demining project, known as “Masam,” successfully removed 3,166 landmines across various regions in Yemen during the first week of February 2026. These mines, planted by Houthi militias, included five anti-personnel mines, 1,027 anti-tank mines, and 2,134 unexploded ordnance.
Demining Efforts in Different Provinces
According to official statistics, the Masam team made significant progress in several provinces:
- Aden: The team removed 200 anti-tank mines and 254 unexploded ordnance.
- Al Hudaydah: In the Hays district, the team cleared three anti-tank mines and one unexploded ordnance in the Al Khawkhah district.
- Hadramaut: The team successfully removed 619 anti-tank mines and 1,613 unexploded ordnance in the Mukalla district.
- Hajjah: In the Midi district, the team cleared two anti-personnel mines, 18 anti-tank mines, and 171 unexploded ordnance.
- Lahij: The team removed one unexploded ordnance in the Tuban district and three anti-tank mines along with 12 unexploded ordnance in the Al-Mudharabah district.
- Marib: The team cleared one anti-tank mine in the Raghwan district and 181 anti-tank mines in the Marib district.
- Shabwa: The team removed one unexploded ordnance in the Aysilan district.
- Taiz: The team cleared two anti-tank mines and six unexploded ordnance in the Al-Mokha district, 46 unexploded ordnance in the Dhubab district, and three anti-personnel mines along with 29 unexploded ordnance in the Salouh district.
Cumulative Impact of the Masam Project
Since its inception, the Masam project has removed a staggering total of 540,671 landmines. These mines were indiscriminately planted across Yemen, posing a grave threat to innocent lives, particularly children, women, and the elderly. The ongoing efforts aim to restore safety and peace to the affected communities.
The Masam project continues to play a crucial role in humanitarian efforts, ensuring that the people of Yemen can live without the fear of landmines.
