The Saudi project “Masam,” dedicated to clearing Yemen of landmines, conducted an awareness campaign today for students at Kuwait Elementary School in the Al-Sweida camp, Marib Governorate. This initiative aims to educate students about the dangers posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance.
Objectives of the Campaign
The primary goal of the campaign is to increase students’ awareness regarding the risks associated with tampering with landmines, explosive devices, and unexploded munitions. Participants learned safe handling techniques and the importance of avoiding these hazards to protect their lives and ensure their safety.
Educational Materials and Guidance
The campaign provided essential information through school broadcasts. Students received guidance on the correct procedures for dealing with landmines and related explosive materials. The team emphasized the need for caution when encountering suspicious objects, especially in areas contaminated by remnants of war.
Support for Students
During the event, the Masam media team distributed 200 fully equipped school bags to students as an incentive to encourage their continued education. This contribution aims to alleviate some educational burdens on families and motivate students to pursue their studies.
Previous Campaigns and Community Engagement
The Masam project has conducted several similar campaigns in various governorates. The most recent initiative took place in mid-October at Al-Badr School in the Wadi District, led by Team 13 of Masam. The project team highlighted the crucial role students play in disseminating awareness messages throughout their communities. They urged students to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects to their teachers or families immediately.
Appreciation from the School Community
Students and teachers at Kuwait Elementary School expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Masam project for this noble initiative. They recognized the importance of the campaign in raising awareness about the dangers of landmines and explosive materials, reflecting Masam’s commitment to ensuring their safety and well-being.
Acknowledging Masam’s Efforts
The school community praised Masam’s significant contributions since its inception in Yemen. They acknowledged the project’s ongoing efforts to clear millions of landmines planted by the Iran-backed Houthi militia, which have been indiscriminately scattered across schools and public roads in various Yemeni governorates.
