Lebanese Defense Minister: The enemy disregards international resolutions.

Lebanese Defense Minister Calls for International Pressure on Israel

Lebanese Defense Minister Maurice Sleem has urged the international community to exert significant pressure on Israel to comply with international resolutions. He emphasized that Israel continues to disregard these decisions, particularly United Nations Resolution 1701, which aims to maintain peace in the region.

In statements reported by the National News Agency on Saturday, Sleem reiterated Lebanon’s commitment to peace. He stated, “Lebanon seeks a ceasefire and adheres to the full implementation of Resolution 1701. This reaffirms that Lebanon does not desire war. However, we cannot accept the ongoing criminal assaults by Israel targeting innocent civilians across various regions.”

Call for Action Against Israeli Violations

Sleem highlighted the urgent need for the international community to hold Israel accountable. He noted, “If the international community genuinely wishes to halt the aggression against Lebanon, it must compel Israel to adhere to Resolution 1701. Israel has consistently violated this international resolution since its adoption in 2006, with over 35,000 breaches recorded in land, sea, and air.”

He stressed that the responsibility lies with the global community to ensure that Israel respects international law and the will of the international community as expressed in Resolution 1701.

Tribute to the Lebanese Army

The Minister paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the Lebanese Armed Forces in defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He acknowledged the recent loss of two soldiers at the Kfar Reman checkpoint in southern Lebanon and expressed his wishes for a swift recovery for the injured.

Sleem condemned the attacks on international peacekeeping forces operating in southern Lebanon, stating, “These assaults indicate that the Israeli enemy disregards international resolutions and undermines the peacekeeping missions of UNIFIL. This behavior reveals Israel’s aggressive nature, not only towards Lebanon but also towards peace and stability in the entire region.”

Solidarity with Displaced Citizens

In addition, the Minister expressed solidarity with the Lebanese citizens displaced by Israeli aggression. He acknowledged the challenges faced by many who have been forced to leave their homes and villages. While he empathized with their plight, he also recognized the concerns raised by some displaced individuals regarding the inadequacy of support and care provided to them.

As the situation continues to evolve, Sleem’s statements reflect Lebanon’s ongoing struggle for peace and security amidst regional tensions. The call for international intervention highlights the urgency of addressing the humanitarian crisis and ensuring compliance with established international laws.
