Leadership Council head receives credentials from Asian, African, and European ambassadors

In a significant diplomatic gathering at the Ma’asheeq Palace in Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital, Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with Foreign Minister Dr. Shaye Al-Zindani, welcomed the credentials of ambassadors from various nations on Tuesday. This event underscores Yemen’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its international relationships amid challenging times.

Global Diplomatic Engagement

The ceremony saw the presentation of credentials from ambassadors representing a diverse group of countries, including the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, represented by Dang Swan Zong, the Kingdom of Sweden by Petra Menander, and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia by Faisal Ali Ibrahim. Additionally, credentials were received from the ambassadors of the Republic of Ireland, Gerard Cunningaham, the Republic of Austria, Christoph Tcheska, the Republic of India, Sohail Ejaz Khan, the Republic of Angola, Nelson Manuel Cosme, and the brotherly Republic of Iraq, Qais Saad Al-Amiri.

Messages of Solidarity and Support

In separate meetings, the newly accredited ambassadors to the Republic of Yemen conveyed greetings from their respective countries’ leaders to the President and members of the Presidential Leadership Council. They expressed wishes for health and happiness for the leadership and peace, security, and stability for the Yemeni people. The ambassadors also extended condolences for the victims of terrorist operations in Abyan province and the floods and landslides that affected Hajjah, Al Hudaydah, Taiz, and Marib provinces.

President Al-Alimi warmly welcomed the new diplomats, entrusting them with conveying his and the council members’ greetings back to their countries’ leaders. He assured them of Yemen’s full support and facilitation for their mission to serve and enhance bilateral relations effectively.

Strengthening International Relations

The President praised the solid relationships between Yemen and the ambassadors’ respective countries, highlighting their steadfast support for the Yemeni people, its political leadership, and aspirations to restore state institutions and end the Houthi militia’s coup, backed by the Iranian regime.

He expressed appreciation for the international community’s unified stance supporting Yemen’s constitutional legitimacy, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. Al-Alimi touched upon the efforts to rebuild Yemen’s state institutions in Aden, aiming for peace, ending the war, and addressing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.

Despite significant national transformations and international momentum to revive the political process, peace efforts remain stagnant due to the Houthi militias’ obstinacy and their backers’ prioritization of interests over the Yemeni people’s welfare, Al-Alimi noted.

He reiterated that only a state guaranteeing rights and freedoms, enforcing the law based on justice and equal citizenship, can secure a more stable and internationally respected Yemen. The President also emphasized the importance of international support in deterring threats to global peace and security, which could be exacerbated by the Houthi militias’ actions.

Economic Challenges and International Support

Al-Alimi briefed the new ambassadors on Yemen’s economic reform paths and the challenges posed by the Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities, which have significantly reduced state revenues. He commended the developmental and humanitarian interventions by the Saudi-led coalition, which have been crucial in enabling the government to meet its basic commitments, including paying employee salaries.

Looking forward, the President expressed hope for greater international economic support and humanitarian response efforts to achieve peace in Yemen, based on national, regional, and international references.

The credential presentation and meetings were attended by key figures, including General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, Director of the Office of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, and Mohammed Haj Mahfouz, Head of Presidential Ceremonies and Honors.

This event marks a pivotal moment in Yemen’s diplomatic engagements, aiming to bolster international relations and support for the nation’s journey towards peace, stability, and prosperity.
