Iraqi judiciary seizes assets worth 69 billion dinars and recovers 375 kg of gold.

Iraqi Court Freezes Assets Worth 69 Billion Dinars Amid Corruption Investigations

The Nineveh Investigation Court, specializing in integrity cases, has announced judicial decisions to freeze a range of commercial assets in Mosul. This includes nine commercial properties and three flour mills, with a total value of 69 billion Iraqi dinars. These actions are part of ongoing investigations into Adnan Al-Jumaili, the Deputy Minister of Oil, who faces allegations of money laundering and financial corruption.

Details of the Asset Freezing

The court’s decisions also involve the seizure of seven modern transport trucks, each valued at $200,000. These assets were registered under the names of workers linked to the fleeing defendants, a tactic used to obscure the origins of illicit funds. To ensure proper management of the seized properties and mills, the court appointed judicial guardians. This measure guarantees the continued operation of these businesses and the collection of their financial revenues.

Recovery of Smuggled Gold

In a related development, the Supreme Judicial Council announced the recovery of 375 kilograms of gold. Of this amount, 358 kilograms were retrieved in coordination with the Kurdistan Region, while 17 kilograms were recovered in a separate investigative case. Authorities have transferred this gold to the Central Bank of Iraq, marking a significant step in the fight against corruption.

Importance of Anti-Corruption Investigations

Iraqi judiciary continues its investigations into one of the largest financial corruption cases involving high-ranking officials, including members of parliament, deputy ministers, and general directors. This effort aims to recover both movable and immovable assets and to hold those involved accountable under the law. These initiatives reflect the Iraqi government’s commitment to combating corruption and enhancing integrity within state institutions.
