South Korea Points to Iran’s Possible Role in “Namo” Ship Attack

South Korea Suggests Iran’s Involvement in “Namo” Ship Attack

A senior official from South Korea has pointed to Iran as the likely orchestrator of the attack on the South Korean cargo ship “Namo,” which occurred near the Strait of Hormuz on May 4. The official highlighted that preliminary intelligence suggests no other parties are implicated in this incident, indicating a focused investigation on Iran’s potential responsibility.

Diplomatic Measures and International Cooperation

According to reports from Yonhap News Agency, South Korea intends to pursue diplomatic measures following the official identification of the responsible party. The South Korean government is currently analyzing intelligence provided by the United States regarding this incident. These actions reflect South Korea’s commitment to investigating the attack thoroughly while engaging the international community in discussions about maritime security in the volatile region.

Investigation Efforts and Iranian Denials

In a bid to uncover the facts surrounding the attack, the South Korean government has dispatched expert teams to Dubai. These teams are tasked with conducting a criminal investigation into the damages sustained by the “Namo.” This proactive approach underscores South Korea’s dedication to protecting its maritime interests and ensuring accountability.

In contrast, the Iranian government has firmly denied any involvement in the attack that resulted in significant damage to the vessel. The Iranian Foreign Ministry has stated that the accusations of its responsibility are unfounded and lack credible evidence. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has called on South Korea to collaborate with international efforts to secure navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing the strategic importance of this crucial trade route.
