Saturday, in the city of Al Mukalla, Yemen’s Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, inaugurated a seminar on “Trends in Tourism Media Strategy.” The event, organized by the Ministry, is part of the activities of the 2024 Tourist Town Festival.
Minister Al-Eryani emphasized the pivotal role of tourism media in promoting tourist areas. He highlighted the significance of media efforts accompanying the Tourist Town Festival in marketing this season, developing the tourism sector, achieving sustainability and economic benefits, providing employment opportunities for the youth, and creating an investment-friendly environment that contributes foreign currency to the state’s treasury.
Al-Eryani pointed out that media is a fundamental tool for the tourism industry, crucial for showcasing the natural, archaeological, and historical landmarks, as well as hospitality services in Hadramout and across Yemen. He noted that the annual Tourist Town Festival serves as a key promotional event for Hadramout.
The Minister expressed his gratitude to the local authority led by Governor Mabkhout bin Madi for their support in facilitating the Ministry’s work, especially in the tourism sector. Al-Eryani also expressed the Ministry’s readiness for cooperation and partnership in various fields that serve the public interest and benefit the province.
Al-Eryani mentioned that the success of this vital sector depends on the resilience of tourism service providers, offices, and hotels, especially during the challenges posed by the Houthi militia’s coup and the war that targeted Yemen’s tourist landmarks.
He affirmed the government’s willingness, represented by the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, in collaboration with the local authority, to discuss challenges, receive suggestions, and transform them into action plans that serve this vital sector. Al-Eryani wished the seminar success and hoped it would result in recommendations meeting the needs and requirements for advancing the sector and tourism media, which are fundamental for promotion and attracting tourism.
In his speech, Hussein Al-Sakab, Deputy Minister of Tourism, noted that the seminar coincides with the Tourist Town Festival, which, along with Hadramout’s unique tourism attributes, has made it a prime destination for tourists. He praised Hadramout’s unique civilization against a backdrop of state presence, security, stability, and community awareness in this peaceful province.
Mohammed Bouairan, Director-General of the Tourism Office in Hadramout, welcomed Minister Al-Eryani, the accompanying delegation, and seminar participants in his opening speech.
The seminar concluded with several recommendations, including proposing a competitive tourism award named after the Ministry for the best tourism establishment in the province, establishing a trade union entity for tourism establishment owners within the Hadramout Foundation as a member of the General Federation of the Republic, revising electricity pricing for tourism establishments, simplifying procedures for issuing tourism licenses, and ensuring they are not contingent on other entities’ requirements.
