Information Minister: Houthi militia’s fabricated confessions from societal elites are heinous crimes revealing their barbarity.

Yemeni Minister Condemns Houthi Fabricated Confessions as a Heinous Crime

Sana’a, Yemen – In a striking declaration, Yemen’s Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, has accused the Houthi militia, backed by Iran, of committing unprecedented crimes against society’s elite. This group includes academics, experts, and employees of both international and local organizations, as well as diplomatic missions who have dedicated their lives to serving the country.

A Campaign of Coerced Confessions

Al-Eryani highlighted that the Houthi militia’s systematic release of “sequential” and fabricated confessions from these individuals for media propaganda and political manipulation is a brutal act that reveals their savagery, backwardness, and complete disregard for human and ethical values. The minister pointed out that those who examine these manufactured confessions and their ludicrous content will see through the Houthi’s premeditated scenario of alleging foreign intelligence activities in Yemen. Victims were chosen to play roles in these feeble scenes to validate such claims, coerced into speaking lines in exchange for promises of release, with no consideration for their ages, statuses, or roles in serving the community, nor the feelings of their families.

Propaganda with Ulterior Motives

The purpose behind this cheap political propaganda, according to Al-Eryani, is to claim that prior to the Houthi coup, Yemen was a playground for foreign interventions and a hub for international espionage activities. This narrative serves to legitimize the militia’s destructive policies, their control over local and international organizations, and their imposition of restrictions on public and private freedoms, essentially terrorizing society.

International Community’s Lax Stance Criticized

Al-Eryani also criticized the international community’s relaxed approach towards the Houthi militia over the years, which has emboldened them to raid the premises of international organizations, treating employees and diplomats as “spies and agents,” and using them as tools for propaganda, pressure, and extortion in a manner reminiscent of ISIS and Al-Qaeda tactics.

Call for a Firm International Response

The minister has called for a firm international stance against these practices, which blatantly violate international and humanitarian law. He urged for strong, deterrent measures proportional to the crimes committed by the Houthi militia, including real pressure to release all those forcibly detained, immediate actions to designate the militia as a global terrorist organization, and support for the government to regain control and restore security and stability across Yemen.

This alarming development underscores the urgent need for international action to address the Houthi militia’s criminal activities and support Yemen in its path towards peace and stability.
