In Al-Bayda, Houthi militia conducts widespread abductions and raids on citizens’ homes.

Houthi Militias Launch Widespread Abduction Campaign in Al-Tuffah

On Saturday, Houthi militias executed a large-scale abduction campaign targeting civilians in the Al-Tuffah district of Al-Bayda province, Yemen. Armed with dozens of military vehicles, the militants stormed the homes of local residents.

Targeting Specific Tribes

Local sources report that the campaign specifically targeted members of the Al-Abdullah and Al-Hisham tribes. This action followed rising tribal tensions linked to a previous murder case. Notably, armed female members of the so-called “Zainabiyat” participated in the raids, resulting in the abduction of approximately 20 civilians from the area.

Background of the Conflict

The recent crackdown stems from renewed hostilities between the Al-Abdullah and Al-Hisham tribes in Al-Tuffah and the Al-Bahji tribe in the Al-Malahim district. The operation is reportedly led by Houthi leader Ali Al-Bahji, who falsely claims the title of Central Security Chief in Al-Bayda.

Previous Violence and Retaliation Attempts

Human rights activist Abdullah Al-Abdali highlighted that Al-Bahji previously committed murder against two residents of the Al-Arad village two years ago, with no action taken by the militia. Recently, family members of the victims attempted to seek revenge after encountering Al-Bahji’s convoy in the city of Isma, leading to an exchange of gunfire and several injuries.

Ongoing Military Presence

Al-Abdali confirmed that Al-Bahji exploited this incident to launch a significant military operation, effectively surrounding the village of Al-Arad. Despite local demands for the militia to withdraw, they have refused, citing the issue as a tribal matter and noting their lack of intervention during the initial crime.
