Houthi Militias Kidnap 76 Citizens in Dhammar, Human Rights Organization Reports
On Thursday, the Equality Organization for Rights and Freedoms reported that the Iranian-backed Houthi militia kidnapped 76 citizens from Dhammar Governorate. These individuals have been forcibly disappeared for ten days, with no communication allowed between them and their families.
Details of the Abduction Campaign
The organization detailed that this Houthi operation, which took place on October 27, targeted academics, educators, and various political and social figures. This incident marks one of the largest instances of mass repression in the region since the onset of the Houthi uprising.
Violations of International Law
The statement emphasized that the continued detention of these individuals, including the elderly and those with health issues, constitutes a complete crime and a blatant violation of international treaties. This includes the Geneva Conventions and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
Call for International Action
The organization classified these actions as crimes against humanity. It urged the United Nations and the international community to exert pressure on the militia to reveal the fate of the kidnapped individuals. Furthermore, it called for their immediate release and accountability for those responsible for these violations.
