Human rights calls: The siege of Taiz is collective punishment requiring urgent international action.

Human Rights Activist Calls for Urgent Action to Lift Siege on Taiz

On Sunday, lawyer and human rights activist Ali Al-Sarari emphasized that the ongoing siege of Taiz city, which obstructs the delivery of food, clean water, medicine, and fuel, constitutes collective punishment for the residents. He urged the international community and human rights organizations to take immediate action to lift the siege and facilitate humanitarian aid.

Continued Violations by Houthi Militias

In a statement to Yemen Youth TV, Al-Sarari noted that Houthi militias have committed violations against the people of Taiz for over eleven years. He pointed out that the siege aims to subjugate the city and break the will of its inhabitants.

Impact on Civilians and Basic Needs

Al-Sarari added that the consequences of the siege affect patients and citizens who require medical treatment, clean drinking water, food supplies, and fuel. He asserted that besieging cities and depriving residents of their basic needs are crimes that necessitate urgent international intervention.

Media Campaigns to Expose Houthi Practices

Al-Sarari highlighted that media campaigns opposing the siege aim to reveal the practices of the Houthis to the international community. He affirmed that Taiz city refuses to submit to the militias, accusing Houthi media of disseminating images and videos that do not reflect the reality on the ground.

Ongoing Attacks and Displacement

He discussed the continued shelling of residential neighborhoods using internationally banned weapons, mentioning attacks that targeted homes, resulting in casualties and injuries. Additionally, he noted that the militias spread rumors to instill fear among the residents and exert pressure on them.

Suffering of Displaced Persons

Al-Sarari pointed out the suffering of displaced persons, citing repeated displacements from areas such as Al-Kadha, Al-Wazi’ah, and Al-Bayrin due to the ongoing bombardments and attacks in those regions.

Call for International Humanitarian Assistance

He called on international and humanitarian organizations to act swiftly to lift the siege, deliver food and relief supplies, rescue displaced persons, and ensure that basic needs reach the residents of Taiz.
