In a troubling incident, Houthi militias kidnapped nearly 20 individuals from a village in Ibb Governorate, located in central Yemen. This act has sparked outrage among local residents and raised concerns about ongoing security issues in the region.
According to local sources, Yasser Al-Juhai, the Houthi-appointed police chief for the Al-Midan area in the Rifa’ Ibb district, led the abduction. Residents report that the kidnappings targeted individuals from the Al-Jahashi village, with the security chief allegedly acting with impunity.
Community members accuse the Houthi security official of exercising excessive force against the villagers. They describe the kidnappings as arbitrary and random, affecting both young men and elderly individuals. Furthermore, villagers assert that those taken did not have any involvement in the alleged crime that prompted the abduction.
Reports indicate that the Houthi campaign followed a robbery involving a cargo truck near Al-Jahashi village. The truck had stopped on a main road due to a mechanical failure when the robbery occurred. This incident appears to have triggered the militia’s crackdown on the village.
Residents of Ibb Governorate continue to face persistent violations from Houthi elements and leaders. Community resistance is growing, yet the militia responds with increased repression. This cycle of violence and intimidation raises critical questions about the safety and security of local populations in the region.
