Armed militants linked to the Houthi militia recently launched an attack on a community water project and agricultural crops in the Al-Makhadir district, located in the northern region of Ibb Governorate. This incident coincided with the enforcement of mandatory financial levies on street vendors in a local market, according to reports from local sources.
Local witnesses reported that Houthi militants vandalized equipment at a community water project and damaged agricultural crops in the village of Bid’a. The attackers reportedly looted a portion of the crops, acting like an armed gang engaged in theft and extortion. Residents expressed frustration over the militia’s security forces, who have shown a complete lack of response despite numerous appeals for help.
In a related incident at the Habish Junction Market, Houthi gunmen forced street vendors near the Abu Haliqa station to pay financial levies under duress. Affected vendors accused a Houthi official in the Habish Junction department of colluding with the levy collectors, alleging that they share the proceeds from these extortions.
These violent acts occur amid rising complaints from residents about the increasing chaos and criminal activities, including looting and extortion, perpetrated by Houthi militants and their affiliated gangs throughout the Al-Makhadir district and surrounding areas in the Ibb countryside.
The situation continues to deteriorate, leaving citizens feeling vulnerable and unprotected in their own communities.
