Health Minister discusses boosting health cooperation with French Ambassador.

Strengthening Health Sector Ties: Yemen and France Discuss Bilateral Cooperation

In a significant move to bolster bilateral health sector cooperation, Yemen’s Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Qasim Buhaibeh, met with the French Ambassador to Yemen, Catherine Colonna, to explore ways to enhance the health sector in Yemen through French expertise and experiences.

Addressing Health Sector Challenges

During the meeting, Minister Buhaibeh highlighted the current state of Yemen’s health sector and the challenges it faces, particularly the dwindling financial support from international donors. This reduction in funding has created a gap that urgently needs addressing to maintain and improve health services in Yemen. Buhaibeh expressed appreciation for France’s humanitarian efforts in the health sector through various organizations, underscoring the critical role of international collaboration in times of need.

France’s Support for Yemen

Minister Buhaibeh also commended France’s steadfast support for Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council and government. He particularly noted France’s repeated condemnation of the Houthi militia’s terrorist activities that threaten Yemeni people’s interests, vital infrastructure, and the broader international trade and navigation. Reiterating the Yemeni government’s support for global efforts aimed at achieving a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace, Buhaibeh’s remarks underscored the importance of international solidarity in the face of aggression and instability.

France’s Commitment to Peace and Development

From her side, Ambassador Colonna reaffirmed France’s unwavering stance in supporting the Yemeni government and people. She highlighted France’s dedication to backing the United Nations Special Envoy’s efforts to bring peace to Yemen. Colonna also expressed readiness to explore potential solutions for funding and support in areas critical for health sector resilience, including training and rehabilitation of medical personnel, medical referral programs, emergency services, mobile diagnostic clinics, and training initiatives in conflict-affected regions.

Conclusion

The meeting between Yemen’s health minister and the French ambassador marks a pivotal step towards strengthening health sector cooperation between the two nations. By leveraging French expertise and support, Yemen aims to overcome the current challenges in its health sector, paving the way for sustainable development and stability in the region. This collaboration signifies a beacon of hope for enhancing healthcare services and facilities in Yemen, ultimately contributing to the country’s long-term peace and prosperity.
