President Alimi Leads Government Meeting to Address Security and Economic Challenges

Strategic Government Meeting Convened by President Alimi

On Monday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, the head of the Presidential Leadership Council, convened a significant government meeting aimed at addressing recent developments in security and the economy. Key attendees included Council member Salem Al-Khanbashi, Governor of Hadhramaut, and Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Sha’if Al-Zandani.

Discussion on National Developments and Economic Reforms

The meeting featured the participation of Central Bank Governor Ahmed Ghaleb and Economic Team Leader Hossam Al-Sharjabi. Its primary focus was to review recent national developments, particularly the progress in economic and service reforms. Participants discussed the mechanisms for monitoring these initiatives in the upcoming phase, underscoring the importance of effective implementation.

Enhancing Security in Aden and Liberated Provinces

In addition to economic issues, the discussions extended to the establishment of security and stability in the temporary capital of Aden and other liberated provinces. The meeting emphasized the critical need for enhanced coordination and institutional integration at both the central and local levels.

Addressing Recent Violent Incidents

Interior Minister Major General Ibrahim Haidan provided an initial report concerning the tragic assassination of Wassem Qa’id, the acting executive director of the Social Development Fund, in Aden on Sunday. Security forces have apprehended one suspect linked to this crime.

The meeting expressed sincere condolences to the family of the late Wassem Qa’id, who was a victim of terrorist elements aiming to disrupt stability and undermine trust in both national and international institutions.

Commitment to Justice and Security

Participants reaffirmed that this cowardly terrorist attack would not go unpunished. The state remains committed to pursuing the perpetrators and ensuring they are brought to justice in accordance with the law. The meeting commended the vigilance of security agencies and their ongoing efforts to thwart terrorist plots that threaten community peace, including the recent dismantling of a cell planning a series of assassinations.

Reviewing Implementation of Council Decisions

Additionally, the meeting reviewed reports on the implementation of the Presidential Leadership Council’s decisions and recommendations from the previous government meeting. Special attention was given to Decision No. (11) of 2025, which focuses on enhancing public revenues, closing accounts outside the Central Bank, and preparing an urgent plan to secure fuel for electricity stations ahead of the summer.

Emphasizing the Importance of Security for Economic Reform

President Alimi commended the progress made in ongoing reform initiatives, stressing that economic reform cannot take place without security. He stated, “We cannot talk about economic reform without security, nor achieve stability without enforcing the rule of law. Security is the shield that protects these reforms and ensures their continuity.”

Reinforcing Partnerships and Assuring International Support

President Alimi reiterated that Decision No. (11) serves as a binding action plan for all entities, requiring full compliance in channeling revenues to the Central Bank and ending any illegal collections. He emphasized that the partnership with Saudi Arabia is crucial in supporting these reforms, asserting that any attempt to undermine this partnership directly targets Yemen’s interests and aspirations for restoring state institutions, security, stability, peace, and development.

He reassured Yemen’s international partners and the donor community of the commitment to protect development workers, stating that recent incidents would not deter ongoing development programs. Instead, they would strengthen the resolve to establish security and uphold the rule of law.

Call for Unity Among Yemenis

In closing, President Alimi called on all Yemenis, along with political and community forces, to unite around the state project and enhance trust in its institutions. He urged complete cooperation with security agencies to establish security and stability, viewing it as a collective responsibility.
