Yemen Braces for Severe Weather: Heavy Rains and Strong Winds Predicted
The General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting and Early Warning Center anticipates continued heavy thunderstorms, some accompanied by hail and severe winds, across western coastal plains, highlands, and slopes. The affected areas span from Sa’dah in the north to Taiz, Dhale, and Lahj in the south over the next 72 hours.
Satellite Imagery and Model Outputs Confirm Weather Patterns
According to the center’s weather bulletin, satellite images, numerical model outputs, upper atmospheric layers, and surface observations all indicate the persistence of thunderstorms and strong winds affecting the country. There is also a likelihood of varied intensity rains, some thunderous and accompanied by strong winds, impacting parts of the deserts, highlands, and plateaus in the provinces of Al Mahrah, Hadramout, Shabwah, Abyan, Marib, and Al Jawf.
Warnings of Sandstorms and Precautionary Measures
Moreover, the center forecasts strong winds capable of stirring sand and dust over the Socotra Archipelago, southern coasts, and areas within the range of thunderclouds. In light of these conditions, the Weather Forecasting and Early Warning Center has issued warnings to citizens and vehicle drivers. It advises against staying in valleys and stream paths, walking on slippery mud roads in areas expected to experience rainfall, and approaching electricity poles, billboards, and trees. The center also recommends turning off mobile phones during thunderstorms as a precaution.
This forecast underscores the importance of preparedness for severe weather conditions across Yemen, urging residents in the affected regions to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines to mitigate potential risks.
