Recent Abductions Highlight Ongoing Violence
The organization Equality for Rights and Freedoms has reported that Houthi militias, backed by the Iranian regime, kidnapped nine civilians in various districts of Dhammar Province within the last 24 hours. Most of the victims belong to the educational sector.
Details of the Abductions
In a statement, the organization identified the abducted individuals as follows: Khaled Ahmed Al-Sarahi (50), Abdul-Ilah Mohammed Al-Houli (48), Ibrahim Ahmed Al-Najdi (50), Abdullah Mohammed Halah (42), Mohammed Ismail Al-Rakhmi (57), Ali Ahmed Jabal (56), Ahmed Lutfi (60), Adel Sheikh (58), and Ali Zandal (40).
Ongoing Detentions and Human Rights Violations
The organization further revealed that over 100 civilians from Dhammar remain in captivity, suffering from severe health and psychological conditions in militia prisons. Among them, 19 young men face death sentences since April 2020. Additionally, 55 civilians, including elderly individuals, have been detained since October 2025. The organization also noted that three teachers have been imprisoned for nearly ten years, while five others have been forcibly disappeared since 2015.
Systematic Campaign of Terror
According to the organization, this wave of abductions forms part of a systematic policy by the militias to terrorize and silence civilians. The militias conduct home raids, instill fear in families, and confiscate property. These actions constitute a series of complex crimes, including arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, and violations of residential sanctity. Such practices contravene international laws and treaties, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.
Call for Immediate Action
The organization has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all abducted individuals. It holds the militia leadership fully responsible for their physical and psychological well-being. Furthermore, it urges the international community to take serious measures to curb these violations.
