On Thursday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with the government delegation negotiating the release of detainees. The delegation, led by Shura Council member Hadi Haij, presented updates on recent discussions.
Recent Negotiations Yield Positive Results
During the meeting, President Alimi received a briefing on the latest negotiations with the Houthi militia, facilitated by the United Nations in Muscat. These talks resulted in an agreement to release 2,900 detainees, including prominent activist Mohammed Qahtan, who is recognized under a United Nations Security Council resolution.
A Message of Hope for Yemeni Families
President Alimi congratulated the Yemeni people on this humanitarian agreement. He emphasized that this breakthrough offers hope to thousands of families. Furthermore, he reiterated the council’s and government’s commitment to prioritizing humanitarian concerns, protecting civilians, and reuniting families in all efforts to restore security and stability.
Acknowledgment of Collaborative Efforts
The president praised the efforts of the negotiating team, as well as the support from Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Nations, and the International Committee of the Red Cross. He urged the international community to apply maximum pressure on the Houthi militia to ensure the unconditional release of all detainees. Additionally, he called for accountability regarding severe human rights violations in areas controlled by the militia.
