Meeting Between Yemeni Leadership and German Ambassador
On Thursday, Sheikh Othman Majali, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Thomas Schneider, the German Ambassador to Yemen. The meeting also included the presence of Deputy Ambassador Sophia Hertzberg.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations between Yemen and Germany. Both parties explored ways to strengthen cooperation in combating terrorist organizations such as ISIS and Al-Qaeda. They also addressed the need to confront externally funded rebel elements, particularly the Houthi militia and its collaborating cells.
Support from Saudi Arabia
The meeting highlighted the efforts made by Saudi Arabia to support the Presidential Leadership Council. Sheikh Majali emphasized the importance of strengthening the government led by Dr. Sha’if Mohsen Al-Zandani. This support aims to improve public services, stabilize the situation, and fulfill urgent commitments amid significant challenges facing the government.
A New Government with Fresh Perspectives
Majali noted that the new government comprises distinguished talents and fresh perspectives, including the inclusion of women in three key ministerial positions. He praised Saudi Arabia’s unwavering support for Yemen in political, economic, and developmental aspects, recognizing the Kingdom’s role as a leader in the coalition supporting legitimacy and a true guarantor of security and stability.
Addressing Houthi Practices
Majali also acknowledged Germany’s and Europe’s role in supporting development and humanitarian aid. He pointed out the growing public discontent towards the Houthi militia’s practices, which include extortion, resource plundering, and the militarization of public life.
Misunderstanding the Houthi Narrative
He explained that the international community has misjudged the nature of the Houthi militia, which has attempted to portray itself as an oppressed minority. However, years of conflict have revealed it as a racist terrorist militia targeting global interests and maritime navigation in the Red Sea, backed by Iranian support and armament.
The Path to Peace
Majali reaffirmed that the Yemeni state’s choice remains peace. However, he warned that if the Houthis do not comply with international resolutions, war remains a legitimate option to enforce a return to the peace table and implement UN decisions.
German Support for Yemen
In response, Ambassador Schneider expressed Germany’s appreciation for the Yemeni people. He confirmed Germany’s commitment to Yemen’s unity, security, and stability, emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation in combating terrorism and supporting the current government and leadership council.
The meeting underscores the ongoing international efforts to stabilize Yemen and combat terrorism, highlighting the critical role of partnerships in achieving peace and security in the region.
