Arab League states Palestinian education needs vital support mechanisms to mitigate impacts of Israeli aggression.

Arab League Calls for Urgent Support in Palestinian Education Sector Amid Israeli Aggression

Education in Crisis

The Arab League recently emphasized the critical need for additional measures, support mechanisms, and resources to alleviate the catastrophic impact on Palestine’s education sector due to ongoing Israeli aggression, particularly in the Gaza Strip. This statement was made during an emergency meeting of the Council on Educational Affairs for Palestinians, held at the Arab League headquarters.

Assistant Secretary-General and Head of Palestinian and Arab Territories Affairs, Ambassador Said Abu Ali, highlighted the dire situation during his speech. He pointed out that the education sector was among the primary targets of what he described as brutal and concentrated Israeli attacks. These attacks have led to a terrible catastrophe, resulting in significant human and material losses, affecting both public and private educational institutions, as well as UNRWA schools, which have also been turned into shelters for civilians.

A Threat to the Future

The Palestinian Minister of Education and Higher Education, Amjad Barham, echoed these sentiments in his address. He stressed that the Israeli occupation aims to demolish the future of Palestinian children by targeting educational institutions. Barham reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s belief in their right to education, placing it at the forefront of their rights.

A Call for Action

The meeting and statements underscore the urgent need for international support and intervention to protect and rebuild Palestine’s education sector. The Arab League’s call to action highlights the necessity of providing immediate assistance to mitigate the effects of the ongoing conflict on Palestinian students and educators, ensuring their right to education is preserved amidst the challenges they face.
