Sudan’s Sovereignty Asserted Amid Ongoing Conflict

General Burhan Rejects External Interference

The head of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, firmly rejected any external impositions regarding the governance of Sudan. He emphasized that only the Sudanese people hold the right to determine their destiny and choose their leaders through elections.

Confrontation with Rapid Support Forces

During a public address in Wadi Halfa, located in the Northern State, Burhan stated that the Rapid Support Forces face a choice between “surrender or death.” He reiterated the commitment of the Sudanese Armed Forces to eliminate what he termed a “rebel militia.”

Acknowledgment of Local Support

Burhan praised the sacrifices made by the citizens of Wadi Halfa and the Northern State, highlighting their support for the armed forces during the ongoing conflict. He recalled the historical sacrifices of the region’s residents and assured that the government is dedicated to addressing service-related issues and the challenges faced by the populace.

Call for Agricultural Development

He urged the enhancement of the agricultural sector and the strengthening of food security. Burhan pointed out the importance of supporting productive sectors and improving services provided to citizens.

Invitation for Peaceful Dialogue

Burhan confirmed that Sudan remains open to all citizens wishing for peace, dialogue, and return. However, he stressed the rejection of what he described as treachery or mercenary actions, along with any external interventions or impositions concerning the country’s future.

Message of Solidarity

He noted that the gathering represented a message of solidarity from the Sudanese people to their leadership. Burhan extended his greetings to the armed forces and those stationed at various fronts defending Sudan’s sovereignty, security, and stability.

Gratitude to Egypt

Burhan expressed gratitude to the Arab Republic of Egypt, assuring that Egyptian citizens in Sudan enjoy safety and care. He emphasized the importance of continuing cooperation between the two countries and revitalizing trade relations to serve mutual interests.

Ongoing Armed Conflict

Since April 2023, Sudan has experienced armed conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces. Efforts from Arab, African, and international mediators continue in pursuit of a permanent ceasefire and resolution to the crisis.
