On Sunday, November 25-30, 2023, Minister of Youth and Sports Naif Al-Bakri reviewed the final preparations for the third Arab Arm Wrestling Championship, which will take place in Aden. The Yemeni General Federation for Strength and Arm Wrestling organizes this event under the supervision of the Arab Federation for the sport.
During a meeting with the President of the Yemeni Federation for the sport, Arhab Yassin, Al-Bakri emphasized the ministry’s unwavering support. He expressed the leadership’s commitment to overcoming challenges to ensure the championship’s success. The minister highlighted the importance of presenting a positive image of Aden and Yemen, given the event’s significance within the Arab sports community. He noted that this requires a comprehensive approach to management, organization, security, and services.
Arhab Yassin outlined the arrangements made to guarantee a successful championship, which marks the first time Yemen hosts this event. Currently, nine Arab teams have confirmed their participation, including representatives from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Somalia, and Djibouti.
The championship will feature 300 athletes competing in various weight categories across different age groups: juniors (ages 18-23), men (above 23), masters, and athletes with disabilities. Additionally, the event will include the prestigious Super Cup, known as the “Arab Champions Championship.”
The meeting included several officials, such as Shukri Hussein, Director General of Media, Shawqi Al-Bakari, Director General of Internal Auditing, Rafeeda Mabeen Saleh, Secretary of the Sports Sector, and Saeed Abdul Karim, Public Relations Officer for the Arm Wrestling Federation.
As the championship approaches, the focus remains on ensuring a well-organized and memorable event that showcases the best of Arab arm wrestling talent.
