Al-Aradah and Bin Mubarak assess the conditions of displaced persons at Al-Jafina and Al-Suwaida camps in Marib.

Today, Major General Sultan Ali Al-Arada, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, and Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak visited the Al-Jufaina and Al-Suwaida camps in Marib City. Their visit aimed to assess the humanitarian conditions of displaced families residing in these camps.

On-the-Ground Observations

During their field visit to Al-Jufaina, one of Yemen’s largest displacement camps located south of Marib, and Al-Suwaida camp, which houses over 2,170 displaced families in the northern part of the city, Al-Arada and Bin Mubarak listened to the concerns of several families. They learned about the dire humanitarian situation, living conditions, and the challenges these families face, particularly due to the diminishing role of international organizations in humanitarian assistance.

Critical Needs Identified

The leaders identified essential and urgent needs for the displaced families, focusing on food, shelter, water, and sanitation. The situation has worsened due to climate-related disasters, further straining the already limited services in health, education, and other critical sectors within the camps.

Impact of Recent Weather Events

The officials also observed the significant damage caused by heavy rains and strong winds in August, which affected the temporary homes of displaced families in both camps. They reviewed emergency interventions and actions taken to assist those affected while addressing the damage to public services within the camps.

Call for Increased Support

Al-Arada and Bin Mubarak urged all relevant ministries and government agencies to intensify their efforts and coordinate with international partners to meet the needs of displaced individuals in these camps. Marib Province currently hosts 204 displacement camps and gatherings.

They called on the United Nations and various humanitarian organizations to fulfill their responsibilities. The leaders emphasized the urgent need for increased humanitarian interventions in Marib, which has seen over 62% of Yemen’s total displaced population, with new arrivals continuing daily.

The visit by Al-Arada and Bin Mubarak highlights the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Marib and the urgent need for collaborative efforts to support displaced families. Their appeal for increased international assistance aims to address the pressing challenges faced by those affected by displacement in the region.
