In a comprehensive meeting held today in Aden, the temporary capital, under the leadership of the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, Major General Salem Al-Socotri, stakeholders delved into the pressing issues facing the agriculture and fisheries sectors amidst the ongoing climate change crises.
The gathering, which brought together deputies, heads of bodies, advisors, and general managers from both sectors, reviewed the ministry’s actions to regulate the process of agricultural and fishery exports and imports through the country’s ports. This initiative aims to streamline operations and enhance the efficiency of sectoral trade.
Minister Al-Socotri emphasized the need for optimal resource utilization, expenditure rationalization, and the unification of the ministry’s revenue streams through official and correct procedures. He highlighted the goal of elevating the ministry’s performance and strengthening its relationships with other ministries and international organizations. The minister pointed out the importance of leveraging support from various international and local partners to benefit the agricultural and fisheries sectors.
To better organize, monitor, and evaluate the work of international organizations and oversee the projects they implement, the ministry recently established an Executive Unit for Externally Funded Projects. This unit aims to coordinate and facilitate the implementation procedures of these projects and interventions, in collaboration with relevant entities and specialists within the ministry and its branches across all provinces.
The minister stressed the significance of cooperation and coordination among all relevant entities within the ministry, the integration of efforts, and the exchange of expertise and information to enhance work and support various departments with specialized young cadres. This approach is intended to advance institutional work within the ministry.
This meeting in Aden marks a pivotal step towards addressing the challenges faced by the agriculture and fisheries sectors in the context of climate change, demonstrating a concerted effort to adapt and thrive in changing environmental conditions.
