A meeting chaired by the Minister of Health addresses issues related to external scholarships within the ministry.

Ministry of Public Health Discusses Overseas Scholarship Program

The Ministry of Public Health and Population convened a meeting in the temporary capital of Aden today, led by Minister Dr. Qassem Baheeb. The committee focused on several key issues related to the overseas scholarship program, particularly the completion of files for doctors nominated to study in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as part of the medical residency program for the July session.

Addressing Doctor Requests and Training Opportunities

During the meeting, which included Deputy Minister Dr. Abdullah Dahan, Undersecretary for Primary Health Care Dr. Ali Al-Walidi, and Chairman of the Supreme Medical Council Dr. Omar Zain, the committee discussed requests from some doctors to change their specialties or extend their enrollment periods in academic programs. Additionally, they reviewed the current state of short-term training programs and available opportunities for healthcare professionals both domestically and internationally.

Importance of Comprehensive Data Management

Minister Baheeb emphasized the need for a comprehensive and updated database for the scholarship and training program. This database should include all medical personnel eligible for scholarships, documenting their academic paths, specialties, and work locations. Such a system will facilitate decision-making and guide future programs to better serve the healthcare sector across various provinces. He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to expanding partnerships in training and overseas scholarships by coordinating with friendly nations, academic institutions, and international health organizations. This effort aims to enhance the healthcare system with qualified personnel capable of keeping pace with global medical advancements.

Enhancing the Scholarship Committee’s Functionality

The Minister also called for improvements within the scholarship committee and the exploration of new short- and medium-term on-the-job training opportunities. These initiatives will ensure enhanced performance and align with the current vision for both short- and long-term medical training. Addressing financial aid challenges that hinder scholarship and training opportunities remains a priority. Minister Baheeb stressed that continuous professional development for healthcare staff should be a top priority for the ministry in the upcoming phase.

Building a Transparent and Fair System

Minister Baheeb stated, “Establishing a comprehensive system for scholarships and training must rely on transparent and fair criteria, linking it to national health priorities and the needs of healthcare facilities for rare specialties and qualified personnel. The success of scholarship and training programs will directly impact the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens.”

This meeting marks a significant step towards enhancing the capabilities of healthcare professionals in Yemen, ensuring they receive the necessary training and support to improve health services across the nation.
