A militant and a motorcycle driver lost their lives in a tragic incident in the northern suburbs of Old Ibb, Yemen, on the evening of August 22. The explosion occurred when a hand grenade, carried by the militant, detonated after their motorcycle overturned on the Al-Dahoub road.
Local sources identified the militant as Osama Fakhri Al-Dhib, a member of the Houthi militia. He was armed with weapons and hand grenades while riding a motorcycle driven by a young man named Mohammed Al-Shabibi. As they headed toward the city of Ibb, the motorcycle skidded due to mud from recent rains. This caused the vehicle to flip, resulting in the grenade striking the ground and exploding. The explosion killed Al-Shabibi instantly, while Al-Dhib sustained severe injuries and later succumbed to them.
This incident highlights a troubling trend in Ibb Governorate, where similar occurrences have increased over the past few years. The region faces escalating security chaos and widespread weapon proliferation, which significantly endangers civilian lives in areas controlled by the militia.
As Ibb grapples with ongoing violence and instability, this tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by armed groups and the urgent need for improved security measures to protect civilians.
