Family Forced to Sleep in Cemetery Amid Economic Collapse in Yemen

A Yemeni family has spent six consecutive nights sleeping in a cemetery in the city of Ibb after being evicted from their rented home due to unpaid rent. This heartbreaking situation highlights the severe economic crisis affecting areas controlled by the Houthi militia.

Eviction Triggers Desperate Situation

Local sources report that a woman, who lost her husband and parents, sought refuge in a cemetery with her two children. They have been living in the cemetery, located in front of the Economic Foundation in the city, since the second day of Eid al-Adha. The landlord evicted them after they could not pay the accumulated rent.

Disturbing Videos Capture the Family’s Plight

Humanitarian activist Mukhtar Malhi and others shared videos showing the family sleeping on the ground among graves. This stark contrast comes as the Houthi militia spends large sums on sectarian celebrations while the majority of Yemenis endure extreme poverty.

A Broader Humanitarian Crisis

This incident is part of a larger pattern of humanitarian tragedies unfolding in Houthi-controlled areas. The ongoing economic collapse and the absence of support for the most vulnerable populations exacerbate the suffering of families like this one.

The situation calls for urgent attention and action to address the dire living conditions faced by many Yemenis.
