Child Killed and Young Man Severely Injured in Houthi Landmine Explosions

A tragic series of landmine explosions attributed to Houthi militia activities has resulted in the death of a child and severe injuries to a young man in Yemen’s Al-Jawf and Al-Hudaydah governorates on Friday.

Incident in Al-Jawf: Child Fatally Injured

Local sources reported that a young boy named Ali Al-Shahri lost his life in the Al-Khard area, located in the southwestern part of Al-Jawf. The explosion occurred while he was tending to sheep in the Ben Sarhan pasture. This incident highlights the ongoing risks posed by unexploded ordnance in the region.

Another Explosion in Al-Hudaydah: Young Man’s Leg Amputated

In a separate incident in Al-Hudaydah, a man in his twenties suffered life-altering injuries after stepping on a landmine in the Al-Jarahi district. Reports from local and human rights sources indicate that the young man was riding a motorcycle while transporting household items in the “Akda” area. His family, along with residents from his village and four neighboring villages, had been forcibly displaced due to the ongoing conflict.

The Ongoing Threat of Landmines

Al-Jawf and Al-Hudaydah have become some of the most affected areas by landmines planted extensively by the Houthi militia in recent years. These explosives have caused thousands of civilian casualties, including both deaths and injuries. The humanitarian crisis continues to deepen as communities struggle with the dangers of these remnants of war.

The situation remains critical as efforts to clear landmines and protect civilians are urgently needed. The international community must address this pressing issue to prevent further tragedies in Yemen.
