The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported a significant earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale today, Monday. This tremor affected vast areas in western Iran, according to initial data from the center.
The earthquake’s epicenter lay approximately 10 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface. As a result, residents in surrounding areas and neighboring provinces felt the tremor distinctly. The proximity of the seismic focus to populated regions heightened concerns among citizens.
So far, Iranian authorities and relief teams have not reported any significant human casualties or material damage. In response, field assessment teams have begun inspections in areas close to the earthquake’s epicenter. These evaluations aim to ensure the safety of residents and confirm that emergency teams are prepared to respond if necessary.
In recent days, several regions in Iran have experienced consecutive tremors. This ongoing seismic activity has raised alarm among the population and prompted authorities to enhance their preparedness. Earthquakes are a common occurrence in Iran due to its geographical location, which exposes it to various seismic factors.
