Prime Minister Affirms Government Commitment to Strengthening Agricultural Services

Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, the Prime Minister, emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing the role of the General Authority for Agricultural Services. This initiative aims to ensure the availability of agricultural inputs, oversee the importation of fertilizers and seeds, and provide essential services to farmers. These efforts align with the broader goal of achieving food security while addressing current global developments.

Visit to the General Authority for Agricultural Services

During a visit to the General Authority for Agricultural Services on Sunday, Prime Minister bin Mubarak met with Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, Salem Al-Saqtri, and the Authority’s Director-General, Engineer Fahmi Al-Ghitanani. The Prime Minister received a briefing on the Authority’s role in supplying agricultural inputs and meeting farmers’ needs, which is crucial for increasing agricultural production.

Strategic Vision for Agricultural Development

The Prime Minister listened to an overview of the ongoing strategy to restore the Authority’s leadership role and its branches in Shabwa and Hadramout. This strategy includes offering additional facilities and guidance in agricultural production and marketing to farmers. Dr. bin Mubarak stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to implement the government’s plan to boost agricultural production, enhance food security, and reduce import costs.

Emphasis on Economic Viability

The Prime Minister highlighted the necessity of preserving the Authority’s assets and adopting a new perspective that prioritizes economically viable and productive agricultural projects. This approach aims to maximize the benefits of agricultural initiatives.

Visit to the Agricultural Equipment Factory

Additionally, the Prime Minister visited the Agricultural Equipment and Fencing Factory, a subsidiary of the General Authority for Agricultural Services. The factory produces various fencing materials. During the visit, he, along with Minister Al-Saqtri, received insights from Factory Director Ali Qahtan and staff regarding production levels, marketing strategies, and the current needs for expanding the factory’s operations to better serve market demands.

Recommendations for Expansion and Compliance

The Prime Minister directed the reactivation of a decision mandating government entities to procure their needs from the factory. He also called for conducting necessary studies to diversify the factory’s production, aiming to include a wider range of agricultural equipment.

The Prime Minister was accompanied during the visit by Engineer Anis Baharitha, Director of the Prime Minister’s Office.
