A seminar in Marib emphasizes the active role of women in achieving the September 26 and October 14 revolutions.

Women’s Role in Yemen's Revolutionary History Highlighted at Political Seminar

A political seminar titled “The Yemeni Woman: A School of Struggle and Mother of Free Revolutionaries” took place today in Mareb, emphasizing the significant role of Yemeni women in the revolutionary movements across the country. The event underscored women’s contributions to the 26th of September 1962 Revolution, which dismantled the imamate regime in northern Yemen, and the 14th of October Revolution, which liberated southern Yemen from colonial oppression.

Call for National Policies Supporting Women’s Rights

Organized by the General Administration for Women’s Development within the Governorate’s office, the seminar aimed to celebrate the 62nd anniversary of the September Revolution, the 61st anniversary of the October Revolution, and the 57th anniversary of the withdrawal of the last British colonizers from southern Yemen. Participants urged the adoption of national policies that support women’s rights and equality. They emphasized the need to focus on girls’ education, empower women, raise awareness about their issues, and involve them in decision-making processes to drive meaningful development.

Highlighting Historical Contributions and Ongoing Struggles

Ali Mohammed Al-Fatimi, the Deputy Governor, spoke about the vital role of Yemeni women in the historical struggles for freedom. He noted their active participation in the September and October revolutions and stressed the importance of continuing this struggle alongside men against the remnants of the imamate, represented today by the Houthi militia, which has ties to Iran. Al-Fatimi called for a united front to eradicate this oppressive project.

Local Authority’s Commitment to Women’s Empowerment

Al-Fatimi reaffirmed the local authority’s commitment to prioritizing women’s issues. He praised ongoing initiatives and projects aimed at supporting women across various sectors, acknowledging their contributions to the province’s development.

Showcasing Women’s Achievements in Revolutionary Context

Finda Al-Amari, Director General of the General Administration for Women’s Development, highlighted the seminar’s purpose of shedding light on the revolutionary roles played by Yemeni women during the September and October revolutions. She noted the significant gains women have achieved in political, economic, social, and educational fields post-revolution. Al-Amari also emphasized women’s current role in resisting the new imamate project led by the Houthi militia.

Exploring Historical Context and Modern Achievements

The seminar featured three presentations that reviewed women’s conditions during the imamate and colonial periods. The discussions covered the heroic roles women played in preparing for and participating in the September and October revolutions, as well as their involvement in maintaining these revolutions’ achievements.

The presentations also highlighted the advancements women have made under the republican system, including their participation in various public roles, such as ministers, ambassadors, and parliament members.

This seminar not only celebrated the historical contributions of women in Yemen but also called for ongoing efforts to empower them in the fight for equality and justice.
