Protest Held in New York City Calling for Lifting the Siege on Taiz

New York City witnessed a protest today outside the United Nations headquarters, demanding the lifting of the siege on Taiz and the opening of roads. The demonstration also condemned the attacks carried out by the Iran-backed Houthi militias on civilian facilities in Yemen.

Participants Raise Awareness for Taiz

Participants in the protest, held under the slogan “Taiz Calls You… Do Not Fail Its Children!”, displayed banners highlighting the suffering of civilians in Taiz. They urged the international community to take immediate action to end the siege, protect the population, and stop the targeting of civilian infrastructure and vital facilities.

Humanitarian Crisis in Taiz

The protest emphasized the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in Taiz and its surrounding areas. More than three and a half million people face difficult living and health conditions due to the siege, road closures, and shortages of food, medicine, and fuel. This situation threatens the continuity of essential medical services and endangers the lives of patients and children.

Condemnation of Houthi Attacks

Protesters condemned the Houthi militias for targeting medical facilities, ambulances, and residential neighborhoods. They also denounced the shelling of Aden and Al-Riyan airports in Mukalla. Participants asserted that the targeting of civilian infrastructure and vital facilities poses a direct threat to civilian lives and exacerbates their humanitarian suffering.

Call for International Action

The participants called on the United Nations, the U.S. administration, Congress, and the international community to assume their responsibilities. They demanded pressure to lift the siege on Taiz, open the roads, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, medical supplies, and fuel, and halt attacks on civilians and civilian facilities.
