Governor of Taiz Discusses Emergency Plan for Remote Education Continuity
The Governor of Taiz, Nabil Shamsan, convened a meeting today to discuss an emergency plan aimed at ensuring the continuity of remote education. This initiative comes in response to the temporary suspension of classes due to shelling and the blockade imposed by the Houthi militia on the city. The governor emphasized the importance of safeguarding the well-being of students.
Prioritizing Education Amidst Challenges
During the meeting, which included the Deputy Governor for Services, Rashad Al-Akhali, the Director General of the Planning and International Cooperation Office, Nabil Jamal, and the Director General of the Education Office, Abdul-Wasi’ Shaddad, Shamsan reiterated that education remains a top priority for the local authority. He asserted that students must not be deprived of their right to education.
Shamsan stressed that education serves as a vital battleground for instilling national identity in students. He highlighted the need to counter the Houthi militia’s sectarian ideology, which aims to undermine the educational process and mislead future generations to serve its agenda.
Protecting Students’ Futures
The governor expressed that ensuring a bright future for children requires preventing them from becoming victims of idleness or being drawn into combat. He affirmed that knowledge and education are the most effective means to protect them and build a prosperous future for the province.
Implementation of the Educational Plan
Shamsan praised the efforts of the Education Office in preparing the plan and urged for its swift execution. He called for immediate practical implementation to guarantee the continuation of educational activities.
The meeting included a presentation from the Director General of the Education Office regarding the plan, which involves activating three educational platforms for secondary education across schools in urban and rural districts. The plan aims to expand capacity and organize school hours from 8 AM to 6 PM, accommodating families that share a single learning device.
Enhancing Remote Learning Tools
The plan also includes the activation of visual learning through platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet, as well as the creation of educational groups via WhatsApp. Recorded lessons will be available for students unable to attend live sessions.
Additionally, the plan encompasses training teachers using a train-the-trainer approach, enhancing the role of educational guidance in field monitoring, ensuring discipline, and tracking dropouts. The initiative aims to compensate for educational losses through collaborative efforts among schools, families, and the community.
Commitment to Educational Success
The meeting concluded with a commitment to intensify efforts and work around the clock to prepare educational platforms, schedules, and technical and educational staff. This initiative aims to ensure the success of the educational process and overcome current challenges.
