Minister of Transport Emphasizes Importance of Assessing Port Facility Risks
Minister of Transport, Mohsen Al-Omari, highlighted the necessity of enhancing the readiness of port facilities to identify and evaluate risks. He stressed the importance of prioritizing actions and implementing appropriate preventive measures. These steps ensure an effective response to incidents and emergencies while maintaining smooth commercial and maritime operations.
Workshop Concludes in Aden
During the closing of a joint workshop for port facility security officers and appointed authority officials, held today in the temporary capital of Aden, Minister Al-Omari noted that the event represented a significant opportunity. The workshop, organized by the Regional Maritime Security Program in the Red Sea, funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), aimed to strengthen the capabilities of national personnel. It also sought to raise awareness of various aspects related to ship and port facility security, especially given the current security challenges in the region.
Call to Action for Participants
Minister Al-Omari urged participants to utilize the knowledge and information gained during the workshop. He encouraged them to translate this knowledge into practical practices and procedures within the ports and port facilities. He pointed out that the ongoing regional conditions and the security challenges facing maritime corridors increase the responsibility to protect ports, ships, and maritime routes. This protection is vital to ensure the continuity of trade and navigation while preventing the exploitation of port facilities for any illegal activities.
Acknowledgment of Collaborative Efforts
The minister praised the efforts of the International Maritime Organization, the European Union, experts, consultants, and the General Authority for Maritime Affairs in organizing and successfully conducting the workshop. He expressed hope that the outcomes would enhance the efficiency of national personnel, strengthen port facility security, improve coordination among entities, and protect ports, ships, and sailors. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of supporting the security and safety of navigation in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Bab-el-Mandeb.
