Houthi Militia Executes Citizen in Al-Shamayatayn, South of Taiz

The Taiz Human Rights Center (THRC) reported that the Houthi militia committed a field execution of a citizen in one of the towns of Al-Shamayatayn District, located in the southern part of Taiz Governorate. This act forms part of a series of violations the militia has carried out in areas it recently seized.

Details of the Incident

In a statement, the center explained that militia members executed Fawzi Shamsan Ahmad Thabet Al-Zazai (52 years old), a former director of Omar Ibn Al-Khattab School, on Wednesday. The incident took place in the Al-Zazai area of Al-Shamayatayn District.

The report indicated that Houthi gunmen stormed the victim’s farm in the Heja Thoubah area. They invaded his room, looted his belongings, and physically assaulted him. Subsequently, they abducted him and executed him in the field with multiple gunshots that resulted in his death.

Strong Human Rights Condemnation

The center condemned the crime in the strongest terms, asserting that it represents a severe violation of the right to life and international humanitarian law. They described the act as an alien crime to Yemeni society, necessitating investigation and accountability, and emphasized that it should not go unpunished.

The monitoring team completed documentation of the crime’s circumstances and collected relevant data. This information will be included in the center’s database as a human rights document that can support justice and accountability efforts.

Calls for Investigation and Accountability

The center urged human rights and humanitarian organizations, as well as international mechanisms, to document the crime as part of the violations against civilians in Taiz. They called for condemnation of the act, monitoring of the investigation and accountability process, and necessary actions to ensure that the perpetrators do not escape punishment.
