Today, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Mukhtar Al-Yafai discussed the latest humanitarian developments with the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Yemen, Neil Hope. They focused on ways to enhance cooperation in the fields of social protection and support the implementation of the National Child Protection Plan 2026–2029.

Houthi Escalation and Its Humanitarian Consequences

The meeting addressed the repercussions of the recent escalation by Houthi militias, which has resulted in widespread displacement and increasing humanitarian needs. They also discussed urgent measures to protect children, condemning the militias’ practices of recruiting children and sending them to the front lines. The importance of strengthening national and international efforts to protect children from various violations was emphasized.

Strengthening Partnership with the United States

Minister Al-Yafai highlighted the significance of the partnership with the United States in supporting humanitarian response and social protection programs. He called for mobilizing the necessary resources to implement the National Child Protection Plan, appreciating the American support for the Yemeni government and its solidarity with the Yemeni people.

United States’ Position

For his part, the Chargé d’Affaires reaffirmed the United States’ continued interest in the humanitarian situation in Yemen. He expressed readiness to support humanitarian response efforts, maintain coordination with the government and partners, and assist in protecting children and addressing the needs of displaced persons and the most affected groups.
