Minister of Foreign Affairs Discusses Bilateral Relations with Jordanian Counterpart
On Sunday, Dr. Afrah Al-Zouba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Yemen, met with Ayman Safadi, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan, in the Jordanian capital, Amman. The two officials discussed the brotherly relations between their countries and explored ways to enhance these ties, along with the latest developments in Yemen and the region.
Diplomatic Communication and Greetings
At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Al-Zouba delivered a written message from His Excellency President Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, to His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan. Minister Safadi conveyed the King’s greetings to President Al-Alimi and expressed wishes for security and stability for Yemen and its people.
Appreciation for Jordan’s Support
Minister Al-Zouba expressed Yemen’s appreciation for Jordan’s supportive stance. She praised the Kingdom’s assistance in political, economic, health, and educational fields, as well as its efforts in capacity building and supporting state institutions. She emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation to serve the mutual interests of both countries and their peoples.
Strengthening Political Consultations
The two ministers agreed to activate the political consultation mechanism between the foreign ministries of their countries, as outlined in the memorandum of understanding signed in 2022. They also discussed arrangements for holding the fifteenth session of the Yemeni-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee in the near future.
Current Situation in Yemen
Minister Al-Zouba reviewed the current situation in Yemen, highlighting the repercussions of the military escalation by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias on the security of Yemen, neighboring countries, and international navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab. She affirmed that ending the coup and restoring state authority is a national, regional, and international interest. This responsibility requires a firm stance and effective support for the Yemeni state and its institutions.
Regional Security and Cooperation
She appreciated Jordan’s supportive positions regarding regional security and freedom of navigation, stressing the importance of enhancing regional and international coordination in this regard.
Jordan’s Commitment to Yemen
For his part, Minister Safadi reaffirmed Jordan’s steadfast position in supporting the legitimate Yemeni government’s efforts to restore security in Yemen and preserve its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and achievements. He expressed Jordan’s solidarity with the legitimate Yemeni government in facing Houthi militia attacks and its readiness to provide all necessary support to restore state institutions and enhance security and stability.
Continued Coordination
Both sides underscored the importance of ongoing consultations and coordination to support the political process and enhance security and stability in Yemen and the region.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Jalal Faqira, Yemen’s Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and Sarah Al-Ruwaishan, a member of the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ office.
