Today, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Mohammed Al-Faqmi discussed areas of cooperation between the government and the World Bank with the World Bank’s Country Director for Yemen Dina Abu Ghaida. They held the meeting via video conference to review the progress of development projects funded in several vital sectors.
Review of Current Portfolio and New Projects
The two sides examined the status of the current portfolio and the achievements made so far. They also discussed projects currently in preparation across the following sectors:
- Electricity
- Agriculture
- Fisheries
- Water
- Private Sector Development
Preparations for Bangkok Meetings
The meeting also addressed arrangements for Yemen’s participation in the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, scheduled to take place in Bangkok next October. Additionally, they prepared for the Yemen Partners Group meeting.
New Development Plan
Minister Al-Faqmi noted that the ministry is currently working on preparing the economic and social development plan. This plan follows a methodology that starts from the districts and governorates, focusing on identifying priority needs. He emphasized the importance of aligning this plan with the Country Partnership Framework that covers the same period.
He confirmed the government’s shift from humanitarian response to recovery, enabling national institutions to implement projects independently. He welcomed the new partnership framework’s focus on building the capacities of these institutions.
World Bank’s Commitment to Support Yemen
For her part, the World Bank’s Country Director reaffirmed the bank’s ongoing support for Yemen. She expressed her team’s readiness to collaborate with the ministry in preparing the plan and aligning it with the priorities of the partnership framework.
