The preparatory meeting of the Arab League Council, held at the level of permanent representatives, has approved a resolution supporting the sovereignty of the Republic of Yemen. This resolution also condemns Iranian violations that threaten Yemen’s sovereignty and airspace integrity. The meeting emphasized full solidarity with Yemen, affirming its independence and territorial unity.

During the meeting, which included the participation of Yemen’s acting permanent representative to the Arab League, Minister Plenipotentiary Abdul Malik Dahan, the resolution firmly rejected practices that violate international law and principles of good neighborliness. It called on the Islamic Republic of Iran to immediately cease any activities or actions that infringe upon Yemen’s sovereignty or compromise the safety of its airspace. The resolution urged Iran to adhere to international law and the United Nations Charter.

Yemen’s Right to Sovereignty

The resolution underscored Yemen’s inherent right to exercise full and exclusive sovereignty over its territory, territorial waters, and airspace. It affirmed Yemen’s entitlement to take all legitimate measures necessary to protect this sovereignty in accordance with international law.

Call for International Action

The resolution urged the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to fulfill its responsibilities. It called for necessary actions to ensure respect for Yemen’s sovereignty, prevent the recurrence of such violations, and hold accountable those responsible for them.

During the meeting, the Yemeni delegation presented three items and draft resolutions addressing various issues related to the situation in Yemen. These included the ongoing item titled “Developments in the Republic of Yemen,” support for urgent developmental needs and infrastructure projects in Yemen, and the aforementioned resolution condemning violations against Yemen’s sovereignty and airspace.

Broader Discussions at the Meeting

The meeting also discussed several draft resolutions and recommendations to be submitted to the upcoming meeting of foreign ministers. Key topics included political, economic, and social issues affecting the Arab world, particularly developments in the Palestinian cause, the Israeli-Arab conflict, and violations in occupied Jerusalem. The meeting emphasized support for the Palestinian budget and the resilience of the Palestinian people.

Additionally, the meeting condemned illegal Iranian attacks against several Arab countries, reaffirming respect for state sovereignty and territorial integrity while committing to international law principles. This meeting of permanent representatives serves as a preparation for the 166th regular session of the Council at the level of foreign ministers, scheduled to take place tomorrow, Monday, under the presidency of Tunisia.
