Strengthening Security Collaboration
Today in the temporary capital of Aden, Minister of Interior Major General Ibrahim Haidan met with Japanese Ambassador to Yemen Yoichi Nakashima and JICA Director Yu Ebisawa. The discussions focused on enhancing joint cooperation in the security sector.
During the meeting, which also included the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Civil Services, Major General Abdul Majid Al-Amri, Minister Haidan praised the ongoing support from the Japanese government to the Ministry of Interior and the Coast Guard. He emphasized that this assistance plays a crucial role in bolstering security and stability in Yemen.
Achievements of the Ministry of Interior
Minister Haidan highlighted the significant achievements of the Ministry of Interior and security agencies in the liberated provinces. He pointed out the efforts made to develop security operations and institutional frameworks. The minister expressed a desire to expand cooperation with Japan, particularly in areas such as forensic evidence, rehabilitation, and training to enhance the capabilities of security forces.
Corrective Measures for the Coast Guard
During the meeting, Minister Haidan addressed the corrective measures aimed at addressing shortcomings in the performance of the Coast Guard in recent times. He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to improving operational and administrative capabilities, thereby enhancing efficiency in protecting coastal areas and combating smuggling and organized crime.
Japan’s Support for Yemen
In response, Ambassador Nakashima confirmed Japan’s continued support for Yemen and its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Ministry of Interior. He commended the ministry’s efforts in implementing the biometric ID card project, viewing it as a significant advancement in documentation and identity verification.
Additionally, JICA Director Yu Ebisawa provided an overview of the programs and projects the agency is implementing in Yemen. He outlined opportunities for collaboration that would benefit the Ministry of Interior in developing its institutional framework and enhancing its technical and security capabilities.
