The Ministry of Information has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of esteemed journalist and researcher Leila Awad Ghanem, who succumbed to illness after a long and dedicated career in media and community service.

In an official statement, the ministry highlighted Ghanem as one of the most influential pioneers in media and women’s work in Hadhramaut and Yemen as a whole. The ministry emphasized that she devoted her efforts to addressing community issues and significantly enriched the media landscape through her exceptional intellectual and professional contributions over several decades.
Contributions to Local Journalism
The statement also acknowledged Ghanem’s professional dedication and her notable contributions to local journalism. She oversaw women’s affairs sections in various newspapers, including Al-Masila, Shibam, and 30 November. Additionally, she co-authored specialized works focusing on Hadhrami women and their cultural heritage. Among her notable publications are the books “Customs and Traditions of Hadhrami Women” and “Al-Tarwiha.”
