IAEA Director Confirms Presence of Iranian Enriched Uranium in Isfahan

Rafael Grossi, the Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has indicated that a significant portion of Iran’s high-enriched uranium is likely to remain within the Isfahan nuclear complex. This assertion follows a series of airstrikes on the facility over the past year, as well as less severe attacks related to the ongoing U.S.-Israeli conflict.

Intelligence Analysis and Satellite Monitoring

During an interview with the Associated Press, Grossi revealed that the IAEA possesses satellite imagery that captures the aftermath of recent airstrikes at the Isfahan site. He emphasized the importance of intelligence in monitoring Iran’s nuclear capabilities, indicating that the agency is actively collecting data on various nuclear sites in Iran.

According to IAEA reports, a substantial quantity of high-enriched uranium was stored in Isfahan as of June 2025, coinciding with the onset of a 12-day war in the region. Notably, satellite images from Airbus show a truck delivering 18 blue containers to a tunnel at the Isfahan Nuclear Technology Center on June 9, 2025, just prior to the outbreak of conflict. These containers are believed to potentially hold high-enriched nuclear materials.

Calls for Comprehensive Inspections of Iranian Nuclear Sites

Grossi reiterated the necessity for comprehensive inspections of all Iranian nuclear sites. He expressed the IAEA’s intention to visit both the Natanz and Fordow facilities, which are known to house additional nuclear materials. These calls align with broader international efforts to ensure that nuclear materials are not diverted for non-peaceful activities.

Maintaining transparency in Iran’s nuclear activities is increasingly critical, particularly in light of rising regional tensions. Collaboration with the IAEA is vital for advancing global nuclear security and ensuring that nuclear proliferation is effectively monitored.
